Instead of encapsulating each chip individually, COB Chips are joined in a dense matrix on a single base, covered by a phosphor layer that distributes the light evenly.
COB stands for Chip On Board. In a COB LED strip, the LED chips are mounted directly on the circuit, allowing many more chips per meter and covering them with a uniform phosphorescent resin that eliminates the dotted effects. COB LED strips are sometimes referred to as dotless or line LED strips, as they appear as one continuous strip to the naked eye. Although they are still made up of hundreds of tiny dots, the chip on board method allows them to seemingly merge together with a sleek finish. For modern spaces, COB strips have become the go-to.
